Have you ever tried to compile a Top-10 list of your favorite movies? I've tried, but it always changes. I re-do it, and it changes. I'll see a movie I had forgotten about, and my whole Top-10 list falls apart. The top two or three generally stay the same, but it's an ordeal to whittle down the rest.

... I'm lost from there. How do you go about defining a top-10? Do you read reviews? Do you talk to people? I get frustrated when I ask a friend for their opinion, and they rattle off their own Top-10 list populated with masterpieces like 3-Fast 3-Furious, Memento, Freddy Got Fingered, or anything with a rapper in the lead role. Movie suggestions from the real brain-trusts of the peanut gallery who cannot enjoy anything that doesn't have gun-fights, explosions, action, hard punches and drift racing civics with giant spoilers... In other words, they're not much of a help to me...
So, I'm just going to give it a shot. I think the best way to go at it, is to define your favorite movies per genre, and then go from there. Your favorite comedies, horror, sci-fi, western, fantasy, the usual. It might also be useful to examine unorthodox sub-categories like dance/music movies (Footloose, Flashdance, School Of Rock, Mr.Holland's Opus, High-Fidelity), best comedic duos, musicals (Little-Shop, Willy Wanka, Sweeney Todd, Coraline), prison movies, Christmas movies. etc. etc.
I am certain that the moment I finally post my list, after a grueling struggle to decide on just 10, I'll want to change it again immediately.
